Japanese Game Shows - Silent Library

We also bring you funny clips from the crazy game shows in Japan.  This clip is from the game show called Silent Library.  The premise of this show is that 6 people are placed in a library where they are not allowed to make noise.  Every few minutes, they reveal a clue such as "Wasabi Roll" and "Bad Smell Air" that hints at a juvenile punishment that one person in the group has to endure.  They then deal one card each face down, and the loser is the one that has the "death" card.  Watch as the loser ends up having to eat an entire California roll full of wasabi or get repeated slapped by a slapping machine while the other players try to suppress their laughter.

Press Your Luck - Michael Larson

Before the days of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and super jackpot prizes, game shows in the 80s rarely gave out prizes totally more than 5 digits.  Which makes this clip of Michael Larson on the show Press Your Luck even more unique.  The premise of the show is that three contestants answer multiple choice questions to win "spins" on the Press Your Luck game board, a panel with various slides showing money, prizes and the dreaded whammy.  The contestant spins by pressing a button to stop the seemingly random images on the panel to get whichever prize they highlight.  But Michael Larson, an ice cream truck driver from Ohio, deciphered that there was a particular pattern to the game board, and that certain spots never contained the whammy, which was the equivalent of the Wheel of Fortune bankrupt spot.  Larson incredibly took over 40 spins without hitting a whammy, winning over $110,000 on the show.  CBS investigated the result before finally giving Larson his prize, and changing the way the board patterns so this could not have been repeated.

This guy Michael Larson, is one of the greatest gameshow contestants ever, besides Ken Jennings. Michael is epic, he will always be remembered as the Press Your Luck champ!!!
